2007 upfronts

Since Jenn's not around to blog about the Upfronts, here is my opinion of it in short:

NBC
  • Yay for giving Zach Braff & co. the opportunity to end Scrubs right.
  • Yay for giving Friday Night Lights another season, but they deserve a full one, not just 13 episodes!
  • Yay for another season of Heroes, though that is no surprise.
  • Boo for canceling The Black Donnelly's and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (though I know that perhaps I'm one of the few people that LOVED that show).
  • Unsure what I think of Las Vegas without James Caan and with Tom Selleck instead, but we'll find out next year!
  • None of the new shows particularly excite me. So... meh, we'll see.
ABC
  • No surprise on the renewals of Ugly Betty (which I still need to catch up on), or Grey's Anatomy.
  • Yay for them giving October Road one more shot. I really liked it, but it might be just cuz I like Jake from One Tree Hill.
  • It's cool that the Lost creators decided to set a deadline for the show. But really, do they need 5 more years? I guess, I won't be starting that show anytime soon...
  • Surprisingly I'm excited about the Grey's spin-off, Private Practice.
  • So what happened to that Traveler show?
CBS
  • Not surprised by How I Met Your Mother's renewal, but yay!
  • Glad to see NCIS, Numb3rs, and Shark will be back.
  • May give Cane and maybe Kid Nation a try.
  • Sad but not surprised to see The Class is gone.
Fox
  • Not surprised but glad to see House back.
  • Kinda want Prison Break to be over already. Okay, okay, I like the show, it's just inane that he escaped prison in Season 1, he continued to escape prison in Season 2, and now he's captured and is going back to prison.
  • Amy Sherman-Palladino making a new show? Yeah, I'm there. The Return of Jezebel James(working title apparently) will get at least a few tries by me.
  • Ending The O.C. this past year was the smartest thing Fox could've ever done!
The CW
  • One Tree Hill needs to go.
  • Yay for FINALLY ending Seventh Heaven and Gilmore Girls.
  • Boo for completely screwing up what WAS a great show (Veronica Mars) by going so back and forth on how many episodes it was getting this year. And now by not making a decision on whether it's getting renewed. UGH. I don't think I will be buying Season 3.
  • I probably will not be able to keep myself from watching Gossip Girl, unfortunately.
Has anyone noticed the number of shows about three or four friends of the same gender who bond together to take on the world? Very Sex and the City.
  • Lipstick Jungle(NBC)
  • Bigshots(ABC)
  • Carpoolers(ABC)
  • Cashmere Mafia(ABC)
  • Cavemen(ABC)
  • Women's Murder Club(ABC)
Oh wait, it looks like it's mostly an ABC trend!

The OC: the end of an era!

You know, now that I think about it, last week's episode of the OC really could have served as a series finale. Except for the fact that the state of the Cohen house was in question, things were wrapped up relatively nicely. Kirsten's baby was fine, Ryan and Taylor reunited, Julie and Frank reunited, and Summer was going off with G.E.O.R.G.E. Technically it could also have served as a season finale had the show not been cancelled. But because the show had enough fair warning about the series ending, they got the chance to do this week's episode as a real goodbye for everyone involved, including the fans.

That said, because things last week had so much of a "wrap-up" feeling, a fair amount of this week's episode was setup. They skipped ahead six months, and it felt like things were being done all over again. Ryan and Taylor had broken up, so they had to reunite again. Julie and Frank had broken up and she was getting married to the Bullitt, so that had to be resolved all over again. Summer ended up not taking the job with G.E.O.R.G.E. so she had to make that realization all over again. The first 50 minutes of the show did have a lot of great gems, as is true with most of the series as a whole, but it seemed almost unnecessary. I did tear up during the scene with Julie and Summer and the locket with Marissa's picture though. It was a nice minimal and fitting tribute to her.

After the wedding was when things started to really pick up. I was completely surprised but really loved that Julie pulled a Kelly Taylor and chose herself. I knew that Summer wasn't going to end up going to Providence with Seth and their goodbye scene got me pretty teary as well. And the scene with Ryan going through the old house with snippets of scenes from the pilot was wonderfully nostalgic, especially the glimpses of Marissa and Seth. Ryan looked so young back then! (Man I have an urge to watch the pilot again.)

I almost thought the episode was over at that point, but this is the OC, and it can't go out without a song montage. No one does the song montage like the OC. I'm so glad that they showed a little bit of what happened to the characters. Julie graduating from college, Kaitlin being smart at Williams (I appreciated that they had that scene implying she was good at math...I'm really tired of teenage characters on TV, especially girls, being bad at math, although "x=25" is the lamest line ever), Sandy as a law professor, and of course Seth and Summer getting married! I liked that they showed little Sophie as a gauge for how many years had passed so Seth and Summer didn't end up doing it too young. I'm also glad that they left Ryan and Taylor open-ended. As much as I loved them this season, Ryan's story is much more than about her, so the ending with him seeing a kid that reminded him of himself couldn't have been more perfect. The OC comes full circle!

Also, you know, one problem I've always had with teen shows is the whole high school-to-college transition and how they have to come up with stupid scenarios to have everyone end up in the same place. (I'm looking at you, Buffy, and Dawson's Creek, and Veronica Mars.) I mean, the OC did that this season too, but with the series ending, everyone was allowed to move ahead more realistically, with the kids spread all over: Ryan at Berkeley, Taylor in Paris, Seth in Providence, and Summer on the activist bus. So cancellation can bring good things!

Other favorite things from this episode:
  • "Briefcase or No Briefcase"
  • "Aw real-life Jake and real-life April broke up"
  • The bagel slicer gets its own scene being packed away!
  • The ridiculously convenient midwife-and-wedding-planner gay couple
  • The Bullitt boys
  • "Maybe he'll come out wearing a wife beater"
  • Team Julie!
  • No mention of harmony-upsetting people like Trey or Theresa or Jimmy or Volchok

Counting down to the end of the OC

This week is the series finale of the OC, and I have to say that it makes me a little sad. Despite a significant amount of suckage over the years, it's still produced tons of memorable characters and moments and I think I'm really going to miss it. But at least, like I've mentioned before, the show is going out on a really high point. So in preparation for the finale, here's my list of my favorite things from the show:
  1. Ryan and Seth. The show's iconic beginning might have been about Ryan and Marissa, but ultimately Ryan and Seth have the best relationship on the show. It's not as obvious as JD and Turk on Scrubs, but their friendship has really driven a lot of the show, and I loved that Seth got to help out Ryan this past episode and acknowledged that Ryan has helped him out of dozens of other sticky situations. As cheesy as this may sound, they really are brothers.
  2. Seth and Summer. I definitely had a crush on Seth first season, and in real life I think I'm still kind of looking for a indie-rock-comic-book-geek of my own. As for Summer, she's changed a lot since we first met her, but even with the recent emergence of activist Summer, she's remained one of the most loveable characters on the show. Plus Seth and Summer's Spiderman kiss was probably my favorite moment ever on the show.
  3. The Cohens. Sandy and Kirsten really elevated this show from being your average teen soap. Usually I can't stand when they try to give the parents storylines as well (which seem to invariable involve affairs and babies) but I cared about Sandy and Kirsten as much as, if not more, than the kids.
  4. Marissa's death. Gutsiest move I've maybe ever seen on a TV show. I went up and down with liking and disliking Marissa, but her death was unequivocably one of the saddest moments on the show.
  5. Julie Cooper. Possibly the single most entertaining character on television. She alternates between being immensely likeable and completely evil, she does high drama and screwball comedy equally well, and has had the craziest run of anyone on the show.

Honorable mentions for Taylor, who's really perked up this final season; Chrismukkah; "Welcome to the OC bitch"; the weekly dress-up functions from first season; Atomic County and the Valley; and of course the music department stealing all my thunder and playing all the bands I like the week after I discover them.

What were your favorite things from the OC?

midseason review

Since I have effectively posted on NO tv this entire 2006-2007 season, I thought I'd take opportunity of the midway point to do so. (Even though some shows ARE back from their holiday break.) So without further ado, here is my current TV lineup, regardless of whether or not I am actually in the process of watching 'em...

Sunday:
(old) Desperate Housewives: Have yet to watch a single episode of Season 3. Am expecting it to be absolutely awful. (So why bother planning to watch at all you might ask? Good question.)
(new) Brothers & Sisters: I watched this for like 3 episodes, but kinda forgot about it. I liked it as a family drama with the typical complex relationships.. Is it still on air? Should I continue to try to catch up? Or has it gotten cancelled already?

Monday:
(new) Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip: Love it. Loved the Christmas jazz ensemble. Love Harriet and Matt. Really like Amanda Peet in everything. Love Matt and Danny. Miss the West Wing.
(new) Heroes: I am astounded by extremeness of people who either LOVE this show or HATE it. It's definitely my most enjoyable new show of the season. It just fulfills me 100% on the entertainment scale. And I love Milo. And Hayden. But when did multiple-personality disorder become a superpower?
(old) How I Met Your Mother: Though I don't know why the writers are incessantly continuing with the Robin-Ted relationship, this season has been as fun as ever. I adore the "Grinch" episode, I adored married Lily-Barney, and of course Barney and his brother. Same old quirkiness, same wonderfully lovable cast.
(new) The Class: This is a show that I thought was possibly the worst thing ever to air on primetime tv and was planning on dropping. But with prodding from Jenn saying that it got better, I've continued watching and I'm STILL watching! It's nice to have 30 minute sitcoms in my schedule... Light, quick, and fun.
(old) What About Brian: I forgot to watch this show this season and I'm thinking maybe it's best left forgotten...

Tuesday:
(new) Friday Night Lights: Agree fully with Jenn on this show. Matt and Julie are the best tv couple of the season, hands down!
(new) My Boys: A late season show on TBS. My roommate complains about the neverending sports analogies, but I enjoy it a lot. I like PJ, I love that the dorky guy from Grosse Pointe is on it, and it's just fun!
(old) House: I was kinda annoyed at first, but I think it's interesting where this season has been heading. I thought the police detective hard-balling Dr. House was REALLY annoying, but now I'm starting to see how his drug addiction to Vicodin could be such a huge issue. It's a really interesting character analysis of Dr. House, and it's also interesting to see how the other doctors need to really step it up to fill the big void the possibility of not having Dr. House around could leave. But in all reality, didn't they cope without him for a few months after doing that crazy surgery thing to him and his leg after he got shot last season? Oh well, I guess I'll just have to see what happens.
(old) Gilmore Girls: Haven't REALLY been watching all the episodes, but watched enough to keep up and BLECH. Hate it. Just get rid of Christopher already and get Lorelai and Luke back to gether again already! (Do like Rory-Logan a lot more now, though!)
(old) Veronica Mars: Again a show I just accidentally watched a few episodes of this season (I was going to wait for it to come out on DVD...), but man... I love Logan Echolls.

Wednesday:
(old) Top Chef: The new season has been alright for me. I hate Marcel, along with everyone. I really like Ilan, Sam, and Cliff. Are Marcel and Elia an item by the way?
(old) One Tree Hill: Haven't actually been watching, but, eh it sounds kinda crazy. This show needs to be cancelled already. Haley preggerz and run over by a car? Nathan with a loan shark? Peyton and a stalker boy? Brooke best friends with Rachel?!?! and all because... PEYTON AND LUCAS? Ridiculous.

Thursday:
(new) 6 Degrees: This didn't get too far on my watch list. Actually I saw all of one episode. And decided it sucked. It went from depressing to even more depressing. If you happen to know it got better, or that the show hasn't been cancelled yet, please let me know. Perhaps I'll give it a second, or third look.
(old) Grey's Anatomy: I love Callie. Meredith and McDreamy simply need to stay together and stay put because their drama when not together is just BORING. Christina and Burke are at yet another hurdle, but I hope they make it through it because they are such a well-suited couple! I still miss Denny like crazy. :-(
(new) The Nine: I *think* this show was on Thursday but I'm not sure. I started watching it and REALLY liked it. But am disappointed to find that it's been shelved. ::sigh:: People! Why aren't you watching the GOOD STUFF?!?! But I'm glad to see some things have been righted with...
(old) The OC: I haven't watched any of this new season (cuz I never finished last season), but the news of show cancellation were gladly welcomed by me. Enough so that I might actually make the attempt to catch up! I'm glad to hear through Jenn that this has been a good season, though. On a related note, I'm still extremely upset about the breakup of Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody off-screen. :-(
(newish-old) The Office: My roommate watches and it's amazing that I managed to stay unhooked on this show until so recently -- but I really like it! And even though I'm a new watcher, I seriously adore Pam and Jim, separately and *hopefully one day* together.

Friday:
(old) Numb3rs: I like this show. It's a good solid show. :-)

COMING UP:
24 -- Can't wait! But two 2-hour premiers in a row? Craziness. That's 1/6th of the ENTIRE season. GEEZ.
Scrubs -- Musical episode! Though it just makes me want to go back and watch Buffy... :-) Now that was a Musical episode extravaganza...

::geez that was long::

Last season of the OC (sniff)

It's official, as reported by Ausiello.

This news isn't at all unexpected, but it's kind of sad to hear it anyway. But I'm comforted by the fact that this season so far has been pretty awesome once again and I think the show's going to go out on a really high note. And despite some really horrible periods I think I'll have a pretty positive opinion of the show in general when it's over.

Final episode February 22. If you haven't been watching this season, I highly recommend catching up. Or be sure to watch it all on DVD when it comes out (which I assume it will).

Welcome (back) to the OC, bitch!

Everyone needs to start watching this show again now because it is AWESOME!

Things that were awesome last night:
- Summer going through the five stages of grief (anger twice because she has rage issues)
- Ryan's seriously intense beach workout
- Sandy trying to ask his co-worker on a guy date
- Kaitlin and Julie making a vow to stay away from trouble and men, respectively, failing miserably and seeing eachother at a club as a result (man, was Julie really going all out on that dance floor)
- Summer trying to reconcile her two selves and Seth actually being supportive
- Che being wacky and not introducing any annoying triangle-ness

And finally, RYAN AND TAYLOR!

This is possibly the most random couple since like, LC and Jason, but it is just AWESOME. It is pretty soon after Marissa for Ryan to get another girl, but I think that's kind of what's so great about it: it's completely unexpected. Man do I love Ryan for deciding to help Taylor and deciding the easiest way would be to just go up to her and kiss her in front of the lawyer. And that nose tap after? Hilarious! We all know how persistent Taylor can be so I'm totally looking forward to her being all obsessed with Ryan and him not really knowing what to make of it.

Man it's such a shame that no one's watching anymore and the ratings suck. It is mostly the show's fault for being so crappy the past two seasons but I'm glad they've decided to pick it up and go out on a high. Seriously, this season has been so awesome that if it stays like this I am definitely going to buy it on DVD.

Is it possible? The OC is awesome again

I know a lot of you have given up on the OC. The show has always been pretty up and down, and last season was pretty horrible with Sandy and Kirsten on the outs and all the crazy Johnny and Volchok stuff, but Marissa's death in the season finale was absolutely the right move and in a way, it's giving the show a chance to start over.

Anyway, this season's premiere is up on myspace and I'm urging you all to give it a shot. I loved it. I wasn't sure where they were going to be taking this season, with Marissa gone and college starting and Kaitlin being the queen bee at Harbor, but the writers handled the premiere beautifully. It was centered on Ryan and the Cohens, but we saw just enough of all the characters and where they are 5 months after Marissa's death, and it was all perfect. I was even choking up in a couple of scenes. As usual, the music was amazing, and I don't know why it was so apparent to me, but the camerawork was pretty awesome.

I don't give away too much, but this episode just reminded me of everything I loved about the OC in the first place and I don't know, I have a good feeling about this season. I won't necessarily be surprised if it ends up sucking like in the past, but I have high hopes. Go watch the episode!

Everwood & the OC collide

I'm probably one of very few who care, but Chris Pratt (Bright from Everwood) is going to be on the OC this season! Michael Ausiello broke the news today, and I'm pretty excited. I don't really have high hopes for the OC at all, but Chris Pratt is awesome and he's going to play a friend of Summer, who's the only character left that I really love so this is good news.

Also in the interview, he reveals that he and Emily Van Camp are dating! I find this to be extremely cute, even though the fact that they did play brother and sister is a little weird. I remember when Jason Behr and Katherine Heigl were dating while playing Max and Isabel on Roswell and I thought that was gross but that's because I sort of felt like their off-screen relationship was sort of affecting their on-screen relationship, making it pretty uncomfortable in spots. Anyway, haha, that's all.

Oh, and this appeared in the news awhile ago, but Chris Lowell, who was one of the life as we know it boys (um, Jonathan?), is going to be on Veronica Mars this season as Wallace's roommate and a possible "love interest" for Veronica. Ordinarily I would be angry at the casting of a love interest but he's so goofy I think it'll be great.

the OC has balls

Man, I have to say that I'm kind of impressed by the season finale of the OC. This season has been pretty crappy in general, bogged down by all the dumb and boring Sandy and the Newport Group stuff and Johnny and then Volchok, but geez, the writers made a gutsy move. I mean, I've always kind of hated Marissa and I wasn't alone in that feeling. People were always joking about killing her off but nobody really seriously thought it would actually happen. Man, I'm still kind of shocked. I mean, sending her off on a boat for a year is one thing, but killing her? Wow.

And everything with next season is kind of up in the air. I can't say I'm a huge OC fan anymore, but it's just become this show that I watch and don't think is particularly great but then don't really get worked up over. So I'll be tuning in next season. It's going up against Grey's Anatomy, which'll probably kill it because they have similar audiences and I'm pretty sure that most people without Tivos or DVRs will be opting for Grey's over the OC. Actually every network has a heavy hitter in that timeslot, with CSI and Supernatural and the new drama Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip...

omg. i hate the oc.

I'm still a few episodes behind oh my gosh. WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH THE SHOW?! It's terrible, terrible, terrible.

I need to stop watching NOW. *sigh*

But I've made it this far and I can't seem to just give it up. :-\

november sweeps, week 2

ON BREAK:
Kitchen Confidential (still! oy...)

SUNDAY:
Desperate Housewives: So Susan and Mike finally come to a head. I'm glad that Gabrielle finaly understands the depth, in its own craziness, of Carlos' love for her. I love Lynnette and Tom's storyline of parents needing to treat themselves every once in a while. And Lynnette's obsession with the suit -- that's something anyone can relate to, falling in love with a material object that makes you feel so much better about yourself. :-)
Grey's Anatomy: Ahhh, the Alex-Izzie kiss was an awesome end to the show. I'm getting a little annoyed with the repeat themes I'm noticing between this show and House. First the surgery of "killing" the patient, to save their lives. Now the request of patient-doctor kisses. Oy. But that kiss was just SO cute.

MONDAY:
How I Met Your Mother: Kinda non-pivotal. Surprising for a sweeps episode, but refreshing as well. But seriously? I wanna see this show go somewhere. SOON.
Laguna Beach: NOT AVAILABLE TO DL YET! BAH!

TUESDAY:
Gilmore Girls: Yeah. Jess is super sexy. I agree with Jenn's post. I spent most of the episode going omg, enough with the Paulanka. And I was very not amused by the girls-soccer-Luke. It's interesting to see a threatened Logan. But mostly, Jess was super attractive. And he reminds me of why I used to like Rory -- because she was this super perfect girl who could see past the exterior of who he was to who he could be underneath everything. Man, Jess is sexy.
House: It was sad to see a diagnoses not pull through. It was probably the first death I've seen on the show (I dunno if it's the first one though, cuz I didn't see ALL of Season 1). But it was a good episode. Finally seeing some more development on the House-Cameron front, at least I think so. And some more insight into House's psyche and what makes him what he is.

WEDNESDAY:
One Tree Hill: Oy, good job Brooke. Letting your desire for vengeance to take over your common sense. But I really like what the show is doing with the Haley-Peyton storyline.

THURSDAY:
The OC: Ehh, not really doing it for me. Of course Seth developing a soft-spot for Taylor has lead to her having a huge crush on him and now wanting to sabotage Seth-Summer. YUCK. Ryan-Marissa are really good together, but they're kinda boring, too. I don't like this seduction of Julie Cooper to the dark side business. I do like the threatened surfer-girlfriend hurting the boyfriend before he hurt her aspect though. Because that was a good portrayal of human nature/strive-to-be-independent girl-nature.
Reunion: Yet another twist. Nice! They seriously made it look like Sam was the one who survived but she's the one who was murdered. Yay for twists. That's sad though, cuz I really like her.
Alias: I was skeptical about the new cast additions, but I've gotta say, I am finding that I really like them. I like Rachel Gibson (played by Rachel Nichols. Reminder of Michael Vaughn played by Michael Vartan, hummm...) a lot. And of course there's the romantic tension building up between her and Thomas Grace. Cuz on this show only in office romances can exist. Sydney-Vaughn, Nadia-Weiss, Dixon-the Director of the CIA, and now Rachel-Grace... I'm not too keen on the Evil-ish-Sloan storyline, or the repetitiveness of the show, but the new characters I do like.

november sweeps, week 1

On break this week because November Sweeps starts next week for them, apparently:
Desperate Housewives, Gilmore Girls, Kitchen Confidential, How I Met Your Mother, Alias

Everything else:
SUNDAY&MONDAY (don't really count, cuz not yet November, but whatever)
Grey's Anatomy: Drs. McDreamy, well-deserving of each other. Cristina, finally showing her ability to be really girly and pulls a freak-out attack on her *awwww* boyfriend. Izzie, being recruited by Mrs. Doctor McDreamy. Abby (from Dawson's Creek) makes a guest appearance as a girl who's attached to another man by a subway pole which is going straight through both of their chests -- GROSS! Overall? Not that interesting of an episode. Obviously had to get it out of the way before Sweeps begins.
Laguna Beach: Jessica is officially on my TV Shit List. I hate that girl. Other people of note on this shit list: Oliver (Season 1 of The OC), all the new characters on Season 3 of The OC, Rory (Gilmore Girls), there are more but I can't think of them. Jenn, you should make a Top 5 list of the character's you've hated most on TV ever. And then a Top 5 list of the ones you've loved to hate the most (Spike!).

TUESDAY:
House: nothing really interesting to report. Cameron almost developed a crush on another doctor but then realized he wasn't Dr. House. A man almost died but last minute Dr. House was able to diagnose his mysterious ailment.

WEDNESDAY:
One Tree Hill: so glad Karen's running against Dan for mayer. Super annoyed by the Brooke-Lucas-SluttyGirl storyline. Enjoying the Peyton-Ellie storyline. LOVE the Dan-Deb pranks-war. And the highlight of this past week's episode? The simultaneous fights between the basketball players and the cheerleaders.

THURSDAY:
The OC: One villain down, two more to go. And seriously, Marissa --so awesome this season!

Reunion: Okay this show seriously as a whole is very played out. Like it makes a big deal out of making certain things a mystery. But for the first time EVER, I was actually surprised by one of its twists. Like the previous twists have been all like well duh. Like Will turning out to be a priest? If you saw the posters for the show, you already knew. But today one of the twists surprised me. Present-Day-Craig is parapalegic! I had nooooo idea! Finally, surprise. One additional redeeming aspect of the episode is that fiiinally Aaron and Carla hooked up, and though it sounds to be a one-time thing? It was really special and their reasons for leaving it at that were really perfect. I loved how Aaron is all surprised to find out she was a virgin (he didn't realize that WHILE they were doing it?) and then he says, "I just can't believe it, a girl like you? How does it take you 21 years to find the right guy?" and she replies, "Actually it only took me 14 to find him, it took him 21 to find him." *collective sigh right here* Anyway, it's little things like that that will keep me watching this show. Plus I love all the musical walks down memory lane. Because they're taking full advantage of representing music in each year, right now it still being the 80's, we're still getting 80's pop songs!

So, done with week one. Time to catch up with week two! (Meaning new Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy!)

the OC is postworthy

I don't want to push down Jen's post on Episode 3 but man, today's season finale of The OC is so worth it. Okay, most of the episode had me cringing. And then when the scene that looked like Marissa was getting shot happened and it turned out she wasn't shot? I was pretty darn pissed. I felt like I was robbed of that moment by the writers. Then there were all those rumors about Oliver showing up? And he didn't, but it was awesome when Seth and Ryan were commiserating over Kirsten's departure and the doorbell rings, and Seth goes, "The only thing that could make this better would be for Oliver to be at the door now." (that's definitely not word-for-word, but you get the general idea)

Anywho, the final final scene... Ahh, writers of The OC, you are extremely good at redeeming yourselves. Mid-season when it looked like it couldn't get any worse, the characters couldn't get any more annoying? You fixed it with the Seth-Summer Spiderman kiss reconciliation. Today when it just felt like the show was getting worse and worse and worse? You fixed it with the final scene. That was beautiful. I read somewhere that the director of the show didn't even give the cast the final page of the script until the day of the shooting. Because he wanted to keep the grand finale a big secret. Man, that was wonderful! The OC, you made me happy with you again. Now I can go into the summer feeling fuzzy happy thoughts towards your show. And next season when the 3rd season premiers? I'll actually look forward to it!

holy crap the oc

HOLY CRAP! Agh, AGH!!! AGH!!!!!!!!!

That is all.

i retract my last OC statement

The show HAS redeemed itself. I can't figure out what made me laugh more, Seth creeping up the roof to fix the cable antenna, or Seth and Summer's Spiderman kiss. I'm glad that finally Sandy and Kirsten are fixed. I'm glad that the Lindsey-Caleb thing is figured out. But more than anything, I'm glad they got me caring about Seth and Summer. I think that Summer really is one of my favorite teenage characters. *sigh* That episode made me happy. Of course we get to look forward to them screwing things up some more. Or attempting to at least.

But YAY for Seth and Summer!

And yay for a humorous episode of The OC for once! I liked Seth's comment about "real life" versions of angsty dramas or something. Hahaha, nice shot at Laguna Beach: The Real OC. Or Seth and Ryan talking on cellphones because neither of them wanted to go walk through the rain to get to the other building. Or Seth and Summer's choice of music: Boyz 2 Men, "Water Runs Dry." Ahh! Yay for a good episode of the OC.

OC rants

So I composed this during class earlier (yeah, I'm such a good student) before I got totally aggravated by the stupid Ithaca concert scene and before I watched the latest episode. Anyway, in agreement with Mira's post, I think the OC is getting really close to being beyond repair...I don't know why, but I feel like my relationship to the OC is really similar to what I had with Roswell. I was totally obsessed and addicted to the show for the first half of the first season, but then they introduced a horrible character (Tess/Oliver) which pretty much made the show terrible, but other storylines kept me from giving up completely, and I held out hope that things would get better. But then second season continued to suck and I wondered why the heck I liked the show in the first place but I still had this ridiculous attachment and I needed to keep watching...

Anyway, here is my list of current OC complaints:

1. There are moments where I do still root for Seth and Summer, but Seth's attitude this whole year had just been shitty and I don't think he deserves much of anything.
2. I like Lindsey but I really wish she had just been left out of the whole Cohen-Nichol-Cooper family drama.
3. I'm glad Ryan is over Marissa but why is the kid from Chino now the most boring person in all of Newport?
4. It's fitting that Summer moves onto Mr. Perfect, aka Zach, but seriously, they have no chemistry and everyone knows it.
5. Marissa and Alex. Who cares?
6. Sandy and Kirsten. WHY are they messing with the one thing that DOES NOT NEED to be messed with? And damn Peter Gallagher, he's making it all seem so in character. Plus Rebecca is not even remotely sympathetic or interesting.

there is perhaps no hope for the OC

I dunno, I watch this show on a daily basis, but more and more I keep wondering... why?!?! But it was quite funny because today I discovered that two of my guy friends (who will here remain unnamed) watch it EVERY week while their other 2 housemates are ballroom dancing... Haha, one of them turned to the channel, looked at me and goes "Look, it's the OC..." and waited for me to squeal "Ooh! Let's watch!" Except much to his dismay I squealed "Oh no! I can't watch this! I haven't watched last week's episode!" Hence he had to 'fess up that really, HE wanted to watch it... LOL.

Not surprisingly, he watches it for the hot girls, not for the captivating storylines. Seriously, there's only one couple that I give an ounce of care about, and they've screwed that up -- Sandy and Kirsten. So what the heck am I doing still watching this dumb show? I don't care about Marissa. I don't care about Seth-Summer. I'm starting to seriously tire of Lindsey and everything related to her, her-her mom, her-Caleb, her-Kirsten, her-Ryan. Oy vey.
